Sleep Apnea is Sleep Disorder

 Introduction:


There are many types of sleep disorders which are due to lack of sleep or overtime of sleep. These sleep disorders are mainly due to mental stress, health issues and physical imbalance of the body. Sleep apnea is one of the major sleep disorders. It causes you to repeatedly stop and start breathing while you sleep. As sleep apnea also have many types but obstructive sleep apnea is the most common of all. 





In this type of sleep apnea the throat muscles intermittently relax and block your airway during sleep. This results in the obstruction of the breathing system. The most noticeable sign of the obstructive sleep apnea is snoring.


Symptoms of Sleep Apnea:


Some major symptoms of sleep apnea disorders are 

Day time sleepiness.

Daytime tiredness.

Observed stops in breathing rates at different intervals of time.

Loud snoring.

Abrupt awakening by obstruction and choking .

Sore throat.

Awakening with a dry mouth.

Morning headaches.

Decreased libido.

High blood pressure.

Mood changes .

Difficulty in breathing.

Depression.

Less focus on keen areas of the day time activities.

Loud snoring which disturbs your sleep and others as well

Waking up choking and gasping

Choking in breathing

Daytime drowsiness

Fatigue 

Less interest in all of the activities.


Snoring doesn't mean that the person is suffering from sleep apnea. Be sure that your snoring isn't affected by periods of silence. When you sleep on your back snoring is loudest and it quiets when you turn on your side. Ask your doctor about any sleep problem that leaves you chronically fatigue, irritable and sleepy.


Risk Factors:


Anyone can develop sleep apnea disorders but there are certain factors which put them at risk .



  1. Excess weight:


Most of the people are overweight. Usually fat deposits on the upper surface of the airways which can obstruct breathing. Most of the medical conditions including obesity , hypothyroidism and polycystic ovarian syndrome also cause sleep apnea.



  1. Older age:


The risk of obstructive sleep apnea increases as the age progresses.  It appears to level off as the age increases up to the age of 60 and 70.



  1. Hypertension:


Sleep apnea is the most common among the people suffering from hypertension.



  1. Narrowed airways:


You might inherit naturally narrow airways. Sometimes it becomes enlarged and block your airways.
